Looks like about half of the Book Swap for Android users have updated to the new v2 app. We’ve already pushed out two updates, and one more is on the way soon. These are mostly small bug fixes, but we’ve yet to see much for crashes.
Lots of likes on our Facebook page, we’ll take that as a good sign!
Please report any issues to email@example.com
The paid app should be available for update on your Android
3.0 2.3.x and newer devices very soon. The ‘Free’ version of the app has not yet been updated, but should be in the next few days.
Please send feedback, either on this blog site, or on our Facebook page.
If you haven’t purchased the app before, please proceed to Book Swap on the Play Store.
As promised, many key issues in the v1.x app have been addressed:
- Login issues resolved
- Barcode scanning of all books should be working
At the moment, notifications aren’t yet working. This should be added soon, via a much more battery efficient mechanism than the v1.x app.
The upcoming release will definitely support scanning all books; the v1 app could not scan older UPC-based book (typically 80s books), the new version has no such issue!
Here’s another screenshot teaser. Still on track for 9/21 release!
Big win over the last 24 hours! Barcode scanning now supports older/80s books (which use UPCs, not ISBNs). I haven’t found a book on the shelf I couldn’t reliably scan yet. Way better than the v1 app which really only supported newer books properly.
To make things even easier, there’s now a dialog which prompts you on how to scan older books (you must capture both barcodes!) vs newer books.

We’ve been working hard to address all of the comments in the Play Store and bring you a modern experience.
A few things that have been sorted out, and will be available in the coming weeks:
- Support email is working
- Authorization reliability fixes
- Modern ‘Halo’ design
- Fast reliable experience on modern devices
- Social network/sharing features
Stick with us, you’ll be super satisfied with the new update
Planned release 9/21/2014!
